handprint studio
Run by Andy White, Handprint Studio is a silkscreen workshop offering an editioning service for artists. With over 20 years’ experience as a professional screenprinter, Andy offers a complete service – planning the print, colour separation, making film positives and screens, colour proofing, and printing. He learnt his skills in commercial printing – working to exact colour specifications, maintaining detail, and keeping tight registration. He brings all this into play when producing prints for artists. Co-operation is a vital part of the process, and artists are encouraged to view their work as it progresses. “Printing an edition for Irish artist Annette Routledge, we decided a red didn’t have enough impact, so we overprinted it twice with tinted glazes,” says Andy. “The result was a colour with breathtaking depth and vibrancy. Her vision. My skills. A beautiful print. It doesn’t get any better.” -
The Gilded Frame Company
There are very few craftsmen keeping the traditional skill of gilding alive. That’s why Chris Mandry’s workshop in Steyning is an address to be treasured. Chris has over 20 years’ experience within the bespoke frame-making trade and has work “everywhere” – having presented art for artists ranging from Anthony Green to Rolf Harris; and for such prestigious interiors as Claridges, and the Las Vegas Bellagio. “I never want to cut corners,” says Chris. “Everything I do is one hundred percent quality, and that’s how I want to keep it.” The Gilded Frame Company’s projects include revolving doors, columns, decorative plasterwork, walls, ceilings, sculpture and textured artwork. Chris is happy to work alongside artists and sculptors to create gilded surfaces on individual pieces. -

Eye4Colour
Where DOES the future of artistic print production lie? It seems the best place to start looking is the past. And a good place to find the very latest fine art reproduction technology rubbing shoulders with traditional print techniques is by visiting RPS studios, Hove. “A lot of cross-fertilisation goes on here,” remarks Eye4colour’s Graeme Locke, in whose cotton-gloved hands local artists such as Simon Dixon, Ben Allen, Steve Wilson, Julie-Anne Gilburt and Jenny Beresford place the faithful reproduction of their artwork.
